Waukee Public Safety Building

As the Waukee, Iowa community continues to experience rapid growth, the City of Waukee had made a major investment in public safety by developing a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility for the Waukee Police and Fire Departments. Designed to meet the current and future need of first responders, the new Public Safety Building replaces the departments’ previous space, which they had outgrown.

Spanning 90,000 square feet, this commercial facility is set to be completed by Summer 2025 with a total project budget of $43.5 million. Owned by the City of Waukee, the building incorporates modern amenities, advanced technology, and thoughtful design to support the critical work and well-being of police officers and firefighters.

Key features of the facility include:

  • Specialized training facilities
  • Community spaces to strengthen engagement
  • Connected, collaborated areas to improve coordination with other departments
  • State-of-the-art evidence storage to ensure the integrity of investigations

Sustainability was a top priority in the design process. The building will utilize solar panels and geothermal heating to harness renewable energy and reduce environmental impact. A comprehensive stormwater management system, featuring bioswales, native planting, and a large retention pond.

This facility represents a significant step forward in supporting Waukee’s first responders and the growing needs of the community they serve.

About the Products Delivered –

As part of the $43.5 million Public Safety Building development for the City of Waukee, our team at Kinzler Materials proudly contributed to the interior ceiling systems for the 90,000-square-foot facility. The project called for a blend of modern design and high acoustic performance, which we supported by supplying a range of premium ceiling materials. This included the CertainTeed 9/16” EZ Stab Elite Narrow Grid, a precision-engineered suspension system chosen for its sleek profile and installation efficiency.

Paired with it, Kinzler Materials also delivered CertainTeed Symphony F ceiling tiles, offering excellent sound absorption, a clean aesthetic, and resistance to mold and mildew. These ceiling tiles are ideal for office and public-use spaces.

To meet more demanding acoustic needs, Ecophon Focus E ceiling tiles were delivered. These will deliver superior sound control to the building. Additionally, the CertainTeed Black HD 15/16” Classic Stab Grid provided structural strength and a bold visual for specialty zones such as media rooms and performance areas.
